How to choose the right mattress

Mattress choice comes down to support type, feel, and sleeping position. Pocket sprung mattresses use individually wrapped springs that move independently — they offer good motion isolation, work for most sleeping positions, and are the most popular type in the UK. Memory foam mattresses contour to the body, reducing pressure points and distributing weight evenly; they suit side sleepers and those with joint pain, though they sleep warmer than sprung. Open coil mattresses use a connected spring system, tend to be firmer and more affordable, and are a practical choice for guest rooms or contract use. Orthopaedic mattresses provide enhanced lumbar support and extra firmness, designed for those with back pain or who prefer a very firm sleeping surface.
