Onlineand.direct supplies CRIB5 certified and independently tested commercial furniture to hotels, HMOs, care homes, student accommodation providers, housing associations, and landlords across mainland UK. Our Contract range covers metal bed frames, divan bases, mattresses, and sofas — with CRIB5 fire certification on the upholstered pieces and SGS strength testing on the metal frames.

Why CRIB5 matters for your business

CRIB5 (also called Source 5) is a fire retardancy standard for fillings and covers used in upholstered furniture and mattresses. The Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988 (as amended) set the baseline for upholstered furniture, and Crib 5 is what fire risk assessments, local authorities, insurers and procurement teams commonly specify for contract premises. That typically includes: hotels and B&Bs, houses in multiple occupation (HMOs), care homes and sheltered housing, student accommodation, and rental properties where the landlord supplies furniture. Furniture below the specified level in these settings is a fire safety risk and an insurance exposure, not just a paperwork gap. The CRIB5 products in our Contract range are covered by test certificates from independent test houses. Certification documentation is available on request.

Metal bed frame testing

Our contract mesh-base metal bed frames are SGS tested to EN 1725:2023 (bed safety, strength and durability) at non-domestic test levels, with a 300kg working load limit, and the Single (3ft) SKID and CONMESH frames are also FIRA tested to FS 059:2014 for contract beds. These are strength and safety tests, not fire tests: pair the frames with CRIB5 contract mattresses where your fire risk assessment calls for them.
