Why Folding?

Rooms that work as both day rooms and night rooms need a bed that can be put up in minutes and stored flat without losing floor space. For fire safety, Crib 5 (BS 5852 Ignition Source 5) is a test for upholstered materials, so it applies to the mattress rather than the steel frame — this frame does not carry a Crib 5 certificate. Pair it with a CRIB5-certified contract mattress.

Is this bed frame suitable for commercial use?
Yes, it is built for contract settings including hotels, care homes, HMOs, NHS facilities, and student accommodation. The frame itself is not Crib 5 certified — Crib 5 applies to the mattress — so pair it with a CRIB5-certified contract mattress.

Has this bed frame been independently tested?
Yes. The manufacturer's mesh-base bed range, including this frame, was tested by SGS to EN 1725:2023 (safety, strength and durability) at non-domestic test levels, and it is load tested to a 300kg working load limit. These are strength tests, not fire tests, so for fire safety pair the frame with a CRIB5 contract mattress. Test documents are available on request.

How compact is it when folded?
The frame folds to approximately 35cm depth when stored flat, allowing multiple beds to be stacked efficiently in a storage room or corridor.

What sizes are available?
Single (90cm wide), Small Double (120cm wide) and Double (135cm wide), all 190cm long. Each fits a standard UK mattress of the same size.

Can I order multiple units for a care home or NHS fitout?

How long does delivery take?
Free UK mainland delivery, typically within 3 working days. Ships flat-packed directly to your door.

How long does assembly take?
Around 15 minutes. The folding mechanism means fewer components than a standard bed frame.

Testing & Certification

• SGS tested to EN 1725:2023 (Furniture – Beds – requirements for safety, strength and durability) at non-domestic test levels, SGS report XMHL2405002599FT, May 2024. The manufacturer, Metal Beds Ltd, confirms this test covers its mesh-base bed range, including this frame.
• Load tested to a 300kg working load limit (330kg proof load).
• These are strength and safety tests, not fire tests. Copies of the test documents are available on request.
