Does this bed frame meet fire safety requirements for commercial properties?
Crib 5 applies to upholstered items, not to a steel frame, so the frame itself is not Crib 5 certified. In hotels, care homes, HMOs and student accommodation, fire risk assessments normally look at the mattress — pair this frame with a CRIB5-certified contract mattress.

Has this bed frame been independently tested?
Yes. The manufacturer's mesh-base bed range, including this frame, was tested by SGS to EN 1725:2023 (safety, strength and durability) at non-domestic test levels, and it is load tested to a 300kg working load limit. These are strength tests, not fire tests, so for fire safety pair the frame with a CRIB5 contract mattress. Test documents are available on request.

What sizes are available?
Single (90cm wide), Small Double (120cm wide) and Double (135cm wide). All share the standard 190cm UK bed length.

• SGS tested to EN 1725:2023 (Furniture – Beds – requirements for safety, strength and durability) at non-domestic test levels, SGS report XMHL2405002599FT, May 2024. The manufacturer, Metal Beds Ltd, confirms this test covers its mesh-base bed range, including this frame.
• Load tested to a 300kg working load limit (330kg proof load).
• These are strength and safety tests, not fire tests. Copies of the test documents are available on request.

Fire Safety

Crib 5 (BS 5852 Ignition Source 5) is a fire test for upholstered materials — the fabric and filling of mattresses, sofas and chairs. It does not apply to a steel bed frame, so this frame does not carry a Crib 5 certificate. For contract settings, pair it with one of our CRIB5 contract mattresses, which are certified.
