Is this bed frame suitable for hotel and care home use?
Yes. It is built for contract use in hotels, care homes, HMOs, hospitals, and student accommodation. Crib 5 applies to upholstered items rather than a steel frame, so pair it with a CRIB5-certified contract mattress.

Has this bed frame been independently tested?
Yes. The manufacturer's mesh-base bed range, including this frame, was tested by SGS to EN 1725:2023 (safety, strength and durability) at non-domestic test levels, and it is load tested to a 300kg working load limit. The Single (3ft) size was also tested by FIRA International to FS 059:2014 for contract beds. These are strength tests, not fire tests, so for fire safety pair the frame with a CRIB5 contract mattress. Test documents are available on request.

What sizes are available?
Small Single (75cm), Single (90cm), Small Double (120cm), Double (135cm), and King (150cm). All sizes share the standard 190cm UK bed length (King is 200cm long).

What type of base does it have?
A strong mesh base — no additional base, box spring, or slats required. Provides firm, even support for any standard UK mattress.

Can I order in bulk for a hotel or care home fitout?
Yes. Trade and bulk orders are welcome. Please get in touch for volume pricing and lead times.

How long does delivery take?
Free UK mainland delivery, typically within 3 working days. Ships flat-packed directly to your door.

How long does assembly take?
Under 15 minutes with basic tools. No specialist equipment required.

Testing & Certification

• SGS tested to EN 1725:2023 (Furniture – Beds – requirements for safety, strength and durability) at non-domestic test levels, SGS report XMHL2405002599FT, May 2024. The manufacturer, Metal Beds Ltd, confirms this test covers its mesh-base bed range, including this frame.
• FIRA tested: the Single (3ft) size was tested by FIRA International to FS 059:2014 (contract beds), 2015.
• Load tested to a 300kg working load limit (330kg proof load).
• These are strength and safety tests, not fire tests. Copies of the test documents are available on request.

Fire Safety

Crib 5 (BS 5852 Ignition Source 5) is a fire test for upholstered materials — the fabric and filling of mattresses, sofas and chairs. It does not apply to a steel bed frame, so this frame does not carry a Crib 5 certificate. For commercial sleeping environments, pair it with one of our CRIB5 contract mattresses, which are certified.
